1 cup old fashioned rolled oats         1 teasp baking soda

1/2 teasp salt        1 3/4 cups boiling water        1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut in small pieces

Blend well, let sit for 15 mins.   Then stir well again.    Add in:

3/4 cup pkd lt. brown sugar          3/4 cup granulated sugar          2 large eggs

Blend well, then add in:

1 3/4 cups flour - a little at a time, stirring until mixed well.  At last, add in:

1 cup semi sweet choc chips        3/4 cup chopped nuts, pecans or walnuts

Spread batter into a sprayed 9x13 pan.    Bake at 350 for 20-25 mins.

Cool completely in pan, cut into 16 pieces.

 

Another version:     Sub 1 cup whole wheat flour for 1 cup of the regular flour

and add 1 cup dried cranberries or raisins and omit the choc chips.
